Ruby and Steve Luan - District Community Heroes Nomination

As beloved staples in our community, Ruby and Steve Luan have spent the better part of 15 years dedicated to teaching hundreds of community members enriching Yuan Chi dance and exercise classes. They are true examples of Community Heroes in our neighborhood and district. No matter rain nor shine, Ruby and Steve show up on time, every time for their community classes. In fact, not even injury can keep this couple from meeting the demands of their rigorous teaching schedule. Two years ago, Ruby suffered from a fall that injured one of her legs, making it difficult for her to move independently. Still, together, Ruby and Steve found a way to continue teaching, by helping Ruby walk with a cane and teach class from a seated position. Additionally, the work that Ruby and Steve have put into the community have produced numerous pupils that eventually went on to become teachers themselves. This has spurred new classes to open up and make the traditional and healthy art of Yuan Chi more accessible to the everyone in the community. Ruby and Steve have selflessly dedicated themselves to the community by teaching the art of Yuan Chi and are very much deserving of the Community Heroes award in this district.

Ruby與 Steve這對夫妻，18年來致力於社區服務，熱心教導社區長輩活動中心的數百名會員元極舞及相關健身運動，儼然是我們社區裡不可或缺的重要人物。

 

長期以來，Ruby 和 Steve 始終不畏寒暑或風雨，總是準時現身課堂；為了滿足所有學員的高度興致與期待，即便身體不適的時候，他們倆仍會克服困難出席授課。甚至兩年前Ruby一度跌傷膝蓋不良於行，為了不耽誤課程，夫妻兩人想盡辦法，特別設計一套坐著指導的方式，Ruby 還是推著助行器如期來上課了。這樣的熱情，這樣的無私奉獻，多麼令人感動！

 

這對年屆八、九十歲的老夫妻，持續服務我們的社區18年，桃李滿天下，如今所指導的學生，也有不少人可以傳承開課，廣泛的造福更多人。他們教導的元極舞和相關健身運動，適合男女老少，對於身心健康非常有幫助，換句話說，他們帶給個人以及整個社區，更多健康和活力。
